Angus the Effing Finger Puppet is a delightful, engaging book in the Sophie Series, a series of books following the life of a little girl who sees and hears magical creatures that have been helping her since her birth. Angus is a fiercely independent little finger puppet who facilitates story-telling with Sophie. Her older brother makes fun of Angus and calls him an “effing finger puppet” and Sophie uses this as an opportunity to tell the story of “F” words to her little brother and sister. She teaches them words like flamboyant, fierce, and formal. The title of the book might appear to be a bit risky but it turns out to be a fun, educational story told by a wise little girl. The tone of this series is quite British but it makes the stories interesting for children in Canada. The author is a Canadian who lived a long time in the UK.
